Dak
Not yet a recognized hunter, though he would dispute this characterization loudly if pressed.
He is the tribe’s most dedicated practitioner of gunting — the tradition of pranking people who take themselves too seriously. He has been developing his craft for years with Brekk’s quiet and entirely plausible-deniable encouragement, and he takes it seriously in the way children take everything seriously when they are genuinely good at it.
He looks up to Kaarsk the way all of the tribe’s children do: with a mixture of awe and careful distance. He has watched the lead hunter come back from things that should have stopped him, and drawn the obvious conclusions about what it means to be that kind of hunter.
In Session 6 he deployed a successful gunt against Dr. Medicine — soured goat milk in the spice pouch. River caught him at 22 Perception and paid him back in hide scrapings. Both of them walked away having earned something in the camp’s estimation. He gave River a Knucklehead Trout Bone Scrimshaw afterward — a piece that came from Ten Towns, how he got it unknown — which in Dak’s social economy means something specific.
His parents were among those injured when Rimetalon attacked the camp. The tribe’s hunting capacity is down. Dak has been waiting his whole young life for his first real hunt, and the circumstances are arriving faster than anyone planned.
