Spare — Session 01 (October 12, 2023)

Night of Offerings & The Red Wizard

Party: Skorn (Anthony — large burly half-orc with scars), Darthal (Alex — covered in furs, well-kept 20s), Winnie (Sarah — halfling, neat pigtails), Tamwyn (Kate), Brandon (Goliath — tall, lived outside society, one of the best hunters), Spare.

• Started in Lonelywood. Tonight is the night of offerings.
• The party received a letter asking them to come to Bryn Shander for Sheriff Southwell.
• In town, locals offer “warmth” by putting out fires.
• Spare is operating out of the mines — working as eyes and ears for a woman in the study (human, her 60s), who sends him to report to Sheriff Southwell. Also mentioned: Father Lake (priest of Auril — owl mask, six-pointed star) and Velene (mines).
• Sheriff Southwell calls the party in to be made deputies. Three murders to investigate. Suspect: Seffick (also written Sephic), connected to the merchant group Torg’s, owned by Torgus. Victims are individuals who may have cheated the town lottery — Torgus looks comfortable in cold weather he shouldn’t be comfortable in.
• Given access to the Quartermaster: all non-magical goods and services at 50% discount.
• Ordered route: Bryn Shander → Easthaven → Targos.
• Shopped and prepped to set out.
• Encountered ghouls eating a corpse. The body was Daedric Bucklehse — killed by someone with a razor-sharp blade of ice. Not natural ice; radiates evocation magic. Kept in a cloth container.
• Made their way to Easthaven. Saw Torgus arriving in armor, not wearing a jacket.
• A man in red robes was about to be publicly sacrificed. Amara identified him as a Red Wizard of Thay.
• Alex and Anthony stayed behind to deal with Seffick while the others went for help.
• They talked to / intimidated Seffick, who let on that he knew the party were deputies and that he was there to gather information. Sent him away. Seffick had glowing blue eyes.
• A crowd had gathered to kill the Red Wizard using torches to ignite the wood.
• Met Indra Arlegesh, Captain of Easthaven. The Red Wizard had killed the previous party that had been helping them.
• Captain wants to meet at midnight.
• Seffick departed; headed to the White Lady’s Inn.
