Coldpeak Camp
The home of the Coldpeak, an orc tribe, and the camp the party is responsible for now. The party arrived at the end of Session 2, vouched for by Savin and Pasha. They came as guests. They have since fought for it, left it to fight for the Elk, and are bringing the Elk back to it.
The camp sits where the mountain folds inward, a natural hollow of cliff faces and cave mouths that breaks the worst of Icewind Dale’s wind and keeps the snow manageable. Hide tents fill the sheltered ground, arranged around fire pits rather than in any formal pattern. There are no walls. The mountain is the wall. The great hall is a wide cavern near the back of the hollow, where the tribe gathers to eat, argue, and wait out the worst weather. A fire burns there constantly.
The camp eats. Durok’s oasis and the cold-hardy vegetables from his enclosure at the edge of camp carry the tribe through when the hunts come back thin. What the camp doesn’t have is safety. Elementals keep coming out of the northwest: mephits, giant snowy owls, ice and mist, never enough to break through, always coming back. The cores they leave behind carry the compass rose of the Arcane Brotherhood’s northern chapter. Kaarsk took his injury in one of those attacks, and he still watches the perimeter.
Broken Tusk leads. In Session 16 she agreed to open the camp’s fire to the Elk tribe, once the question became killing the bird rather than sheltering refugees. Father Joseph buried a stone from the mountain at the center of camp that same night, where everyone had just eaten. Arveth said it would keep the home safe while the party was gone.
The Elk are arriving as the Tribe of the Weaver, about sixty of them. The camp is also becoming a shared Bastion. See The Camp.
Before the Reweave — In the unwoven, the Coldpeak were starving and besieged. Rimetalon was attacking the goat flocks the tribe depended on, hunters were going missing, and Durok was gone. After Session 3, two sentries were found dead at the entrance, arranged around a rune of goat entrails with a white feather at its center. The rune read Soon. The Reweave rewrote this. Memories of it surface as half-rumor, not error.
